The cast is GONE!

I took Katie to Shriners to have the last cast sawn off and pick up her AFOs.

Jack and Katie before her appointment.  Buh-bye blue boot cast!

Since she'd worn this cast longer than the rest, her skin underneath hadn't had the chance to shed for longer, so it was pretty icky under that cast.

After the cast room we went upstairs and tried on the AFOs.  What's an AFO?  Ankle Foot Orthotic.  Essentially, a plastic thing molded around her foot and ankle to hold her them in the right position.

Katie was SO happy to get into the bathtub last night!  I had her and Luke in there together, then washed their hair and got Luke out and let Hannah get in with Katie.  By the time Katie finally got out, she was super pruney.  After 10 long weeks, we had a lot of missed baths to make up for!

For right now, she wears the white AFO all day and the one with the hearts on it all night.  As she gets older, her time in them should decrease until she only wears one at night.

So far, she's pretty accepting of them.  I think it's because she's had to get used to the casts.  But it would not surprise me to walk into her room one morning and discover that she's figured out how to remove it.

I'd like to thank everyone who prayed for Katie during the casting process.  I'm so thrilled she doesn't have to have surgery on her foot after all, and yesterday the PA said again how well it corrected.
